Experienced - Easy to Work With - Proven Collaborator
LeMar R. Fooks is a Rocket Scientist who’s launched 5 satellites into space but it’s his work with Los Angeles’ former foster youth that keeps me grounded on earth. Writing gritty, in-your-face drama with flawed characters in need of redemption, whether they know it or not, is what gets him out of bed in the morning and into his writing pants.
And yes, he’s been known to mix a little comedy in his dramas – when he’s not blowing something up.
This is an Artificial Intelligence free zone. The blood, sweat and tears on the script pages are his and he'll take a DNA test to prove it.
This site is a work in progress. There's enough content described to give you a sense of who LeMar is and his writing sensibilities. He was limited by the constraints of the Go-Daddy template so check back weekly as he rotates in new projects, updates photos, adds videos section and establishes his social media links.
LeMar Fooks is an Angeleno from South LA who has written for television, stage, and film with a focus on dramas with flawed characters in need of redemption. He received an electrical engineering degree from California State University, Northridge and as a “Rocket Scientist” he integrated, tested, and launched climate monitoring satellites. It’s been a nice day job to fall back on as he continued to pursue his career as a writer.
After college, LeMar studied sitcom writing under John Truby, story structure under Robert McKee, dramatic television writing at the American Film Institute (AFI), playwriting at the West Coast Ensemble Theater, and the Los Angeles Theater Center Wordsmiths playwriting lab.
His talents and drive earned him a staff writing position at Paramount Studios and he has had several scripts optioned and has won or placed in several screenwriting competitions. LeMar is also a member of The Organization of Black Screenwriters (OBS).
But his heart belongs to the city and he has spent the last ten years mentoring foster youth who have aged out of the foster care system. In 2020 LeMar was a recipient of the Carl & Roberta Deutsch Foundation HALO Award for his volunteerism.
